detexts is built to be private by default. Most of what it does happens entirely on your Mac.
Speech-to-text and the built-in translation model run locally on your Mac using on-device models. When you use these, your audio and text are processed on your device and are not sent to us or anyone else.
You may optionally choose a cloud translation or transcription provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Gemini). If you do, the text or audio you ask detexts to process is sent directly to that provider using your own API key. detexts does not receive, store, or route that content through our servers, and your use of those providers is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. You can remove your API keys at any time in Settings.

Your transcription and translation history is stored locally on your Mac. You can clear it at any time from within the app.
