# Detexts

> Detexts is a local-first speech-to-text and translation menu-bar app for macOS. Dictation and translation run on your own Mac (offline) — nothing is uploaded unless you explicitly choose a cloud API engine. No account, no tracking, no telemetry; we never collect or sell your voice or text.

Three gestures:
- Hold Fn → voice-to-text (quick transcription; the gesture is customizable).
- ⌘C+C (hold ⌘, double-tap C) → text-to-text translation of highlighted/clipboard text.
- ⌘⇧2 → image-to-text translation (screenshot OCR + translate) for text you can't highlight.

Who it's for (ICP): ESL (English-as-a-second-language) Mac users — CJK (Chinese incl. Cantonese, Japanese, Korean) and European (German, French, Italian, Spanish) — plus vibe coders and productivity-focused employees.
